Our History
This is where our real story began.
Jaggers Terrace - Columbia Housing Authority
The Poole Boyd Foundation is a combination of two families that know the struggle first hand of having a hard time of making ends meet. Growing up in the Jaggers Terrace Complex of The Columbia Housing Authority, in Columbia, SC was difficult at times, but yet it changed our lives. Though the struggle was real, we had a roof over our heads with utilities included. Moving from a one bedroom apartment in the Wheeler Hill section of Columbia, the Poole Family moved to a four bedroom apartment with six children and a mother and father. The Poole family also graciously includes two additional brothers as well. The Boyd Family lived in a five bedroom apartment with at least ten children and a mother and father.
As they say, “times were hard.” It was a constant battle to pay rent, buy groceries, and buy clothes as well as other necessities for our families.
We realize how hard it is for people with low incomes to make ends meet. Even today the cost of living is beyond reach for so many families.
Families cannot afford to purchase books and school supplies, especially ones that have more than one child attending school. We can help by providing students with these items. Our goal is to get more books and school resources in the hands of children near and far. Will you please help?
The Joy of Reading
Some children are unable to develop the necessary skills they need to enable them to pass from one grade to another. Reading will help them to improve their mental intellect while teaching them about different cultures, history, science and so much more about the world’s past and what’s happening in the world today. The more they read the more their creativity and imagination will expand.
Reading is also necessary in other curriculum, including mathematics when answering reading math word problems.
This is our opportunity to help our students begin a life long love of reading during these vital years.
